Academy Clubs take place each semester as an opportunity for students to explore their interests, which expound upon our K-12 curriculum. Clubs are sponsored by the generosity of Academy teachers and parent volunteers. Our club selection and variety expands each year!
Whether a student is just learning the strategy of the game or is an experienced player, chess club is favorite among Academy students. Club members are encouraged to improve their skills and engage in competition with other members of the student body. Chess builds confidence, creative thinking, logical reasoning and problem solving skills while improving patience and focus. The St. Louis Chess Club conducted its own research in 2019-20 and found that:
72% of students say that learning to play chess has made them more confident when learning difficult material.
75% of students say that playing chess encourages them to challenge themselves more in the future.
Visual Art is a club for project based discovery using all your favorite art mediums! Focusing on the elements and principles of design as a guide, students will create an ongoing layered collage with a design/image of their choice. Collages will incorporate mixed media and will include paint, various paper, cardboard, recycled materials, and much more!
Pokémon club will focus on learning the rules for gameplay as well as building and developing winning strategies for Pokémon players. Each student comes with a complete deck and ready to learn their style of offensive and defensive strategies to oust their opponents!
